In the summer of 2022, I moved from London to New York (for love!).
Formerly a journalist, I’d sat in the audience at dozens of conferences. One of the biggest missed opportunities I noticed at conferences is they would have amazing keynote speakers, a stunning venue and great food, but the host would often be an after-thought.
I realised how much events were falling short and doing a disservice to their audience simply by not investing in a professional host.
Frankly, it’s not a job that just anyone from your office can do. A professional host pays dividends for years to come as your audience and sponsors want to return.
My big break in New York happened emceeing The Event Planner Expo - one of the most prestigious events for event planners in the world. From there, I built up a client base to include great organisations like Unilever, Infosys and the United Nations.
What I hear time and time again from event planners is how relaxed they felt on the day knowing there was someone taking care of audience engagement, time-keeping and speaker relations, who could handle any last-minute programming changes and keep the audience energised.
I love the work I do and every time I step on stage, I treat the role with the utmost respect for my client, who has spent so much hard work putting the event together. Now it’s my job to drive audience engagement and make the event a success.
